MEGA-INDUSTRIES: the human body
From the day biology started to creep around us, we have been constantly hearing about human body's enigmatic, baffling and alluring functions. The multitude of cells combining to form tissues and further organs is amazing itself. The human body is no less than a Mega Industry (not a machine) that efficiently manages its input, processing and output. Let us extrapolate a specific plant of this industry with General Eerie's message 103 for his fellow industries.
Red blood cells, or erythrocytes, are the most common type of blood cell and the vertebrate organism's principal means of delivering oxygen to the body tissues via the blood flow through the circulatory system. They take up oxygen in the lungs or gills and release it while squeezing through the body's capillaries. The life of an RBC is short hence the RBC needs to be replaced by a new one.
LISTEN HERE:Your body is creating and killing 2 million red blood cells per second.
2.4 million to be specific.
The mechanism is administered under two headings, namely Erythropoiesis and Senescence. The former in layman's language means "birth" and the latter means "death". Erythropoiesis is the development process by which new erythrocytes are produced; it lasts about 7 days. Through this process erythrocytes are continuously produced in the red bone marrow of large bones, at a rate of about 2 million per second in a healthy adult. The aging erythrocyte undergoes changes in its plasma membrane and a particular system removes old and defective cells and continually purges the blood. This process is termed eryptosis, erythrocyte programmed cell death. And as stated, the process repeats itself till the day we die.
So, take care of your body and stay fit..
